Our relationship with Blomberg Windows goes back many years. We've used their products in new construction and renovations and are amazed by the level of quality and service that this 50 year old company provides. After a restructuring in 2013, STUDIO COLLINS WEIR has worked with the company to provide design support at several different scales. Our overarching design strategy with this client has been to carefully remove layers of corporate history to expose the simplicity and relevance of the products beneath.
To this end STUDIO COLLINS WEIR stripped an existing 1940's bowstring trussed warehouse down to the structure and reinserted two simple volumes to hold discreet program. This left a large atrium space to display examples of the companies custom aluminum windows and doors. Vintage furniture is complimented by custom tables and desks that were fabricated from simple wood and the same powder coated aluminum used in Blombergs products. The atrium is flanked by large format photography showing the people and processes that create the window systems. The resulting space is a careful overlay of old and new, rough and refined.
