SAN FRANCISCO CA
SCW’s renovation of this Victorian home in San Francisco was inpired by the clients desire to have an updated moderns pace within the historic shell. SCW paired back the existing trims, moldings and partitions to reveal the understated grandeur of the Victorian building proportions.
Rather than adhering to a stark modern language in the renovation SCW contrasted details and materials to create a layered experience that feels immediately comfortable. A warm oak floor contrasts clean white walls. Cabinet faces are rendered in a modernized panel style. Bathroom floors and walls are clad in locally sourced concrete tiles that create a rich geometric pattern. The organic lines of the decorative lighting and select natural stone contrasts these choices.
As with the material palette the furnishings and art work together to create a home that is unique to the family and feels lived in from day one. Furniture was selected from different periods and styles and art from new and established artists. A curated wall of cabinetry between the Living and Dining room displays the families library and photos creating a welcoming threshold.
