HOVER TABLE

This dining table is both weighty and weightless. The client desired to entertain in their city apartment and hoped to seat up to ten guests in a relatively tight dining area. A challenge was to highlight and not interfere with the stunning Bay views of the nearby wall of windows while still creating a statement piece that held its own with the client’s world-class design and art collection. The mirror polish stainless steel legs reflect rather than block the view. The monumental ash slab seems to hover above the base and rounded corners encourage the flow of guests.

To underscore the majestic nature of the wood slab, the underside is textured by hand-carved detailing. The textural interplay of sleekness and tactility brings to mind a dark geode or geological specimen. The sublime geometry and craft of this piece were essential as there are no exposed fasteners between the base and tabletop.
